The beginning of a new year is a common time to reflect and reevaluate your lifestyle. Many people decide to make a new year’s resolution to bring about positive change and work toward achieving long-term goals. Unfortunately, resolutions are much easier said than done.

According to a study completed by the University of Scranton, only 19% of individuals who set a new year’s resolution actually persist. We enter January feeling motivated with genuine intentions for a better year ahead, but all too often we lose our resolve fairly early on.

This year, we want to help you actually achieve your goals! Below, we’ve highlighted three common resolutions and provided several local businesses and organizations that can help you stick to those goals in 2021!

If Your Goal is to Get Your Body Moving…

Losing weight and exercising more are two of the most popular new year’s resolutions. If you want to adopt a more active lifestyle this year, Ephrata has some great resources for you. From bike trails to martial arts classes, there are fitness options for everyone!

Places to Exercise in Ephrata

At 7.5 miles long, the Warwick-Ephrata (WERT) Rail Trail is an excellent place to go for a long walk, run, or bike ride on a nice day. If you are interested in mountain biking, check out the Ephrata Bike Park at Heatherwood! There you will find both a beginner and advanced trail totaling 1.5 miles, dirt jumps, two bridges, and three skill areas for cyclists of all levels. If you’re in need of a new bike or a tune-up for your current one, visit Green Mountain Cyclery. They carry a great selection of new and pre-owned bicycles, carriers, and accessories to get your wheels moving.

For those who want a more traditional gym experience, consider a membership at Planet Fitness Ephrata for the affordable price of $10 per month. Other great local options for fitness classes include ACE Dance and Fitness Academy and Ephrata Martial Arts school.

Places to Purchase Work-Out Attire

Workout clothing can be pricey, but you can get quality, secondhand items for an affordable cost at ReUzit on State and Fashion Cents Ephrata — two of the top consignment shops in Ephrata. If you’re lucky, you might even find a pair of designer sneakers for a steal!

If Your Goal is to Start Reading More…

Many of us have spent more time in front of a screen than we’d like to admit these past 10 months. This year, you may have decided to put your phone down, turn your television off, and get lost in a good book instead.

If your resolution is to read more in 2021, sign up for an Ephrata Public Library card! The library has a wonderful collection of books, e-books, audiobooks, and other print and digital resources to keep you entertained. The library is currently operating through a contactless locker service, but they’re also offering a wide variety of virtual storytime sessions, clubs, and activities for readers of all ages on their Facebook page.

You can also find gently used books for low prices via Booksaver’s online inventory page or in-store at ReUzit on State.

If you have a resolution for 2021, we are rooting for you to succeed! We’d love to hear about your progress over the next few months. Share your resolution on social media using #EphrataLocal, and let us know how you’re using Ephrata’s resources to achieve your goal. You got this!
