The Mainspring Collective is Mainspring of Ephrata’s recurring donor program — a group of individuals, business owners, and neighbors who make a regular financial commitment to keep Ephrata growing. It’s less like writing a check and more like joining a team. When your contribution combines with others’, the collective impact goes much further than any single gift could on its own.

Mainspring is designated through Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development (PA DCED) Main Street Matters program — a recognition that comes with access to grants, resources, and partnerships specifically designed to strengthen communities like ours. Every private dollar you contribute helps unlock public and private investments multiplying the impact across the whole community.

About 50% of Mainspring’s operating budget comes from private donations, grants, and sponsorships. The work of building a vibrant downtown — the events, the programs, the planning — depends on the community collaborating with others to generate results and greater impact.

Here’s what that looks like in real life:

• Storefronts that shine. Through the PA DCED-funded Façade Improvement Grant program, Mainspring has helped transform seven downtown buildings in the first round alone, with a second round on the way. Each matching grant — up to $10,000  per project — stretches private and public dollars together to create a downtown worth stopping for.
• A downtown worth celebrating. First Saturdays, 4th Wednesday Happy Hours, the Veterans Day Luminary Trail Walk, the Christmas Tree Lighting & Santa’s Arrival, Rhythm & Brews — these events don’t just happen, they’re planned, funded, and organized by Mainspring with community support at their core.
• A story worth preserving. Historic preservation easements on buildings like the Sprecher Building protect Ephrata’s architectural character for future generations — while keeping businesses like Pour Man’s Brewing Company thriving inside them.
