Get Active for Spring in Ephrata!

Posted on March 21, 2022 by Lisa Willwerth

Fun and local outdoor activities to help you make the most of your spring!

Now that the weather is warmer and the days are longer, there is more time to venture outside and enjoy the outdoors. If you are looking for some outdoor activities that are family-friendly, we have plenty of options right HERE in Ephrata! We’ve highlighted a few locations full of outdoor fun to add to your spring activities wish list this season.

WERT Trail

Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, walking, or all of the above, the Warwick to Ephrata Rail Trail (WERT) is the place to be! This scenic trail is the perfect way to enjoy gorgeous views while getting some exercise on a spring day. The WERT is 7.1 miles long and directly connects downtown Ephrata to Lititz. If you wish to bike and don’t have your own, you can rent a bike for a day through the Ephrata Bike Share. There are multiple access points along the way in case you do not want to traverse the entire trail. Check out the trail map to plan your trip.

Ephrata Tennis Courts

Get outdoors and practice your serve this spring at one of the three public tennis courts at Thomas P. Grater Community Park. Courts are first come, first serve, so bring a partner, racquet, and balls! The park also offers basketball courts, a playground, and a skate park, so there is something for everyone to enjoy during a day out.

Ephrata recCenter

When April showers dampen your outdoor plans, you can still get active indoors at the Ephrata Recreation Center! The recCenter boasts a lap pool, gymnasium, fitness rooms, and game rooms. The location also has a variety of group classes for all age ranges. Visit their website to learn more about classes offered in their Spring 2022 program, and register today!

Fishing at Ephrata Township Community Park

If you are looking for a quieter, relaxing outdoor activity, consider fishing at the Ephrata Township Community Park. Enjoy catching freshwater fish like largemouth bass, bluegills, and catfish, which inhabit the lake and pond. Both bodies of water are open to fishing and are subject to the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Before your fishing trip, be sure to purchase a fishing license. To stock up on fishing supplies before your trip to the park, stop by Musser’s Outdoors for bait, equipment, and more! If the fish aren’t biting during your visit, the park also offers a hiking trail about one mile long that outlines the perimeter of the park.

No need to travel far to enjoy the warmer weather and find something fun to do outdoors this spring! For more information on public spaces where you can make the most of the season, visit the Ephrata Borough website! There you can find more information on Ephrata’s parks, trails, events, and more.
