See Ephrata Cloister in a whole new light at Candlelight Open House! On Saturday, November 14, from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm, Historic Ephrata Cloister’s buildings and pathways will glow with the light of candles during Candlelight Open House.
This self-guided event allows visitors to explore the illuminated grounds at their own pace and step inside the historic buildings to encounter knowledgeable interpreters, skilled tradespeople, and historical demonstrators. Throughout the night, learn the stories, trades, and traditions of Ephrata’s past and enjoy family-friendly activities and happenings perfect for all ages.
The Ephrata Cloister Chorus will perform at 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm in the historic 1741 Meetinghouse. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wristbands are required for entry and are free with admission.
Enjoy fireside tales and tellings at the bonfire, and s’more kits will be available by donation.
God’s Acre, the cemetery, will also be lit by lanterns, and costumed interpreters will tell stories about Ephrata’s historic burial grounds and the people buried within.
New to Candlelight Open House this year are Night Hikes by the creek to the Witness Tree. Hikes begin at 5:15 pm, 6:15 pm, and 7:15 pm, starting at the Physician’s House. Groups are limited; spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Be prepared to walk through the woods, by the creek, beside the amphitheater, and up gentle slopes to the meadow and the 275-year-old Witness Tree. Flashlights will be provided.
Food and drink will be available for purchase at W Donuts’ Dub Truck.
No advance registration is necessary for this event. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance online. Tickets to Candlelight Open House are $10/person. Members of the Ephrata Cloister Associates and children age 5 & under receive free admission to this event.
